Originally from the UK, I moved to Singapore in 2008. I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2000 with a MMedSci in Clinical Communication Studies. Before moving to Singapore, I worked for 9 years as a Speech Therapist for the National Health Service in the North-East of England.
I initially worked with a broad range of paediatric and adult client groups in various settings including clinics, hospitals, schools and homes. Following this, I worked as a Speaking and Listening Consultant on a project to raise standards in schools in a socio-economically deprived area. I collaborated with education staff to run small group and whole-class sessions, developed resources, and provided training in speech and language development and difficulties.
Since 2004 I have specialised primarily in Speech Disorder (including Phonological Disorders, Articulation Disorders and Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia) and Specific Language Impairment. I am a strong believer in evidence-based practice and working in partnership with families and other professionals to support and develop children's communication skills.
I am currently studying for a Diploma in Dyslexia Studies and am enjoying combining my knowledge of speech and language difficulties with a deeper understanding of literacy difficulties.
I provide training to Education and Childcare staff and other Speech and Language Therapists and I am certified to run a range of Hanen® and Elklan® accredited courses.
I am a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (UK) and the Speech-Language and Hearing Association, Singapore.
